Documentary on Little Known Pearl Harbor Story
"The First Shot" reenacts the story of the submarine sneak attack that preceded the famous air attack on Pearl Harbor
The enterprising advanced video students at Hawaii Pacific University have produced a documentary on a popular Hawaii subject: Pearl Harbor. Only instead of retelling the oft-told tale of the air attack and sinking of the USS Arizona, the film, called "The First Shot: The Secret Submarine Attack on Pearl Harbor," sheds light on the preceding sneak attack by five Japanese submarines, including their encounter with the USS Ward--a mystery that was unraveled by a deep-sea discovery in 2002.
The documentary will be broadcast on KFVE at 9:30pm on Wednesday, December 7, the anniversary of the attack, which was the largest foreign attack on American soil until 9/11.
Prior to the broadcast, the public is invited to a special FREE premiere screening this Sunday, which will include special presentations and appearances by Daniel Martinez, National Park Service Historian; Hawaii Pacific University video students and advisors; and five of the original USS Ward "First Shot Naval Veterans."
