Beantown as Tinseltown

Last week, Massachussetts got into the film tax credits game when Governor Mitt Romney signed into law an incentive package that will surely up the level of production there. Productions spending at least $250K in MA will be eligible for a sales tax exemption and tax credits equal to 20% of local payroll.

Perhaps MA lawmakers were finally persuaded to pass the incentives by the fact that Martin Scorsese's upcoming film "The Departed"--a remake of Hong Kong's "Infernal Affairs" set in Boston and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, and Jack Nicholson--shot mostly in incentive-rich New York.
